Swans are a perfect gift for a couple because they are monogamous, graceful, beautiful and symbolic of love. This exquisite pair of sterling swans are salt and pepper shakers. They are both hallmarked SBL for Samuel Boyce Landeck. He was a prolific importer in England of silver items. He specialized in pieces that were appealing to Victorian ladies. A google search shows his collection is high end, decorative and priced accordingly. Each has a British import mark, and hallmarks that include the city of Sheffield and a date of 1896 that is consistent with the period when SBL was importing silver into Britain, during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The textural engraving is detailed. They both open and close with no issues so they can be easily be emptied or refilled. There is no salt corrosion and they appear unused. Both are clean and ready to be filled or displayed. Their necks are graceful and the feathers are expertly done. It is amazing that they are over 126 years and in phenomenal shape! The pair is substantial for shakers at 50 grams, combined. The little circular bump on the bottom of of each is a punch mark mark. Both have identical hallmarks. They make a marvelous house warming, hostess, anniversary or wedding gift. This item is in the category “Antiques\Silver\Sterling Silver (.925)\Salt & Pepper Shakers”.
