Walker & Hall 1909 Pair Of Cased Sterling Silver Salts + 2 Spoons
For offer, a cased pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver open salts, complete with their original blue glass liners, together with two sterling silver salt spoon. The open salt pots have a floral and gadrooned decoration to the rims, plain bodies, and are mounted upon four legs, with Cobalt Blue glass liners. Both salts are hallmarked for the Sheffield assay office, with year date letter of a lowercase “r” for 1909, and makers mark of “W&H” for’Walker & Hall’ of Howard Street, Sheffield, and both have a registered design number to the underside of “Rd295549″ (partly rubbed), which dates this design to 1897. The two sterling silver salt spoons appear to be replacements, as one spoon is a Sheffield hallmarked, 1923’Walker & Hall’ example, with the other spoon being a Birmingham hallmarked, 1926’J. The salt pots are in very good condition, with some signs of age and usage, with a ding to the lower side region on one, and black salt spots to the internal surface under the liners (see above photographs), the hallmarks have some polish wear, but are easily legible, the glass liners are also in very good condition, with one having a chip to the upper edge. The red leather covered case with gilt line decoration, is in very good condition too, having some surface wear from age and storage, the catch and hinges being solid, firmly affixed and fully functioning, with the interior lining of Ivory coloured raw silk and deep blue velvet, being in excellent state. Salt length: 2 1/4 (5.7cm). Salt width: 1 11/16 (4.2cm). Salt height: 1 1/8 (2.9cm). Spoon length: 2 1/4 (5.7cm). Silver weight total: 2.2oz (61g).
