BITOSSI (IT A LY) MID-20TH CENTURY VINTAGE VIRIDIAN GREEN /CERULEAN BLUE /YELLOW MOTTLED GLAZE, TERRACOTTA CERAMIC SALT/ PEPPER SHAKERS, W/SGRAFFITO. Mid-20th century vintage Ita li an Modernist. Pepper: 3 ¾” Height x 2 ¼” Width. Salt: 3 ½” Height x 2″ Width. For sale is this very handsome Bitossi (It a ly) mid-20th century vintage sgraffito sidewall incised, kiln-fired, gloss glazed, terracotta ceramic pair of salt and pepper shakers, with their original cork stoppers. They’re completely intact, previously unseen and are estate fresh. They’re signed in black script on the baseplates’It a ly’ and are absolutely untouched and undisturbed. The mottled glossy, highly reflective glaze consists of viridian green, cerulean blue and embedded yellow medium cadmium colors. The tops of the shakers, the bottom circumventing curb and the interior of the sgraffito incised vertical valleys located on the sidewalls, have more mottled cerulean blue glaze and contrasts with the highs of the rest of the mottled viridian green of the vessels. The forms are cylindrical and staggered, with one vessel being slightly larger than the other and with one cork also being slightly larger. The edges are free of flea-bites, ceramic loss, stains or other maladies that plague vintage ceramic pieces. These are unscathed and appear to have been seldom, if ever previously used, perhaps gifted and forgotten in a hutch, kitchen cabinet or drawer. Fortunately, these rare and unusual pieces of Bitossi Ita li an ceramic art have survived. What are you putting your salt and pepper in on your table?
