A Large Victorian Solid Silver Sugar Caster/Shaker – Samuel Walton Smith 1888. The photos below are of the actual product you will receive. Colours of the product may slightly differ from the photos due to different computer screens. An example of how you may wish to use silverware on your dining table. All other pieces are available on our website – this listing only includes the octagonal caster. We are delighted to offer this wonderful Victorian solid silver sugar caster/shaker made by silversmith Samuel Walton Smith in Birmingham, 1888. This shaker features a classic octagonal-shaped lower body with an unembellished and traditional appearance with a heavy and thick gauge of quality silver. The upper lid is intricately pierced with multiple foliate motifs which are not only aesthetically beautiful but allows for just the right amount of sugar to be scattered onto your desired food of choice. The lid is secured by a push-down mechanism that has a good and tight closure (some angles fit better than others due to its octagonal shape – please do not force it if it feels too tight). The overall quality of this sugar shaker is excellent indeed with quite a thick gauge of silver that can be felt in hand. Despite its octagonally angled body, there are no flimsy sections/partitions and is an exemplary piece for classic silver tableware. The large and tall design allows for a significant amount of sugar to be held within. Full set of hallmarks are present on base and matching marks on the lid of the caster. For collectors: The queen’s head duty mark is present; this caster was made slightly earlier than some of the later casters of similar design. A wonderful addition to those looking to add an ornate yet practical piece of silverware whether be it for display, interior decor or modern-day usage – this item would most certainly complement other tableware very well and one can imagine the indulgent experience of gently sifting some sugar upon eating strawberries/desserts. A large and classic Victorian solid silver sugar caster. Beautiful octagonal and pierced motifs with a sturdy and thick gauge of silver. Ideal for berries and desserts of your choice. Size (mm) H:160mm W:65mm. Size (inches) H:6.29 W:2.55. Weight: 154 grams (5.43 oz). The caster is in excellent antique condition with no damage or issues. Please refer to the photographs to examine the condition in further detail. Colours of the product may slightly differ from the photos due to different computer screen colourations.
