“Anthony Hawksley Solid Silver Mustard & Salt Modernist” Both pieces are fully English hallmarked for London 1964 and the makers mark is A. H for Anthony Paton Hawksley. They are both in excellent condition with no dings or dents and have been beautifully hand beaten with a spot hammer. The interior of both pieces are gilded however there is some wear to the mustard (please refer to photos). The salt measures 60mm across x 30mm high and the mustard 59mm across x 55mm high and the combined weight is a heavy 112.3 grams. A superb example of modernist silver which is a must have for any serious collector. A BRIEF HISTORY ON ANTHONY HAWKSLEY. In 1951 he exhibited at the Festival of Britain for the Goldsmith’s Hall. By 1952 he was lecturing and teaching silversmithing in both Birmingham and Oxford and set up a workshop at his home. Payne & Son of Oxford started retailing his silver and jewellery as well as commissioning pieces for the Oxford Colleges and private collections. In 1972 Payne’s commissioned Hawksley to create a collection of silver for use in Wolfson College, Oxford for their new building which was of a very distinctive design. Hawksley visited the buildings while they were being built and created the collection from his impressions of the new building, which included acid-etched designs from a technique he had pioneered in the 1960’s. In 1981 he exhibited at the Westminster Gallery, Boston, USA and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London have a silver collar he made in the 1960’s. He moved house several times and had lived at Great Rollright, North Oxford and Moreton Hampstead in Devon. He had his workshop at home until he died in 1991. K Sterling Cheques only.
