The mustard pot measures approximately 2 7/8 inches or 73 mm across from the handle to the front of its upper body by just under 2 1/4 inches or 56 mm across the width or diameter of its upper body from side to side and it stands 2 3/4 inches or 70 mm tall to the top of the finial on its lid when closed. The Pepper Pot measures approximately 1 3/8 inches or 35 mm across the width or diameter of its lid from side to side and it stands just over 3 inches or 77 mm tall to the top of its lid when in place. The Open Salt Cellar measures approximately 2 1/8 inches or 54 mm across the width or diameter of its upper rim from side to side and it stands just under 1 7/8 inches or 48 mm tall to the top of its upper rim. The salt spoon and mustard spoons are 2 3/8 inches or 60 mm in length whilst the Presentation case or Box measures approximately 9 inches or 228 mm across its length from side to side by 4 3/4 inches or 121 mm across its width from the hinges to the front catch and it stands 3 inches or 76 mm tall to the top of its lid when closed. The mustard pot, pepper pot, salt cellar and spoons are all made from solid sterling silver and the pots along with the open salt cellar have circular bodies with a raised relief bold geometric stepped decoration that is very typically Art Deco in style , all three of them stand on raised geometrically step decorated circular feet and the pepper pot has a push fitting pierced dome shaped lid that has a decorative finial on the top, the mustard pot has a hinged dome shape lid that also has a decorative finial on the top along with a geometrically shaped handle on the side of its body and the cruet set comes complete with a solid sterling silver salt and mustard spoon, the salt and mustard pots are also complete with their original internal Bristol blue glass liners and the cruet has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, the set is complete with a hinged top gold tooled black leather bound internally fitted black velvet and cream silk lined presentation case or box that has a push button catch on the front all as photographed below, the salt, pepper and mustard pots have each been impressed with a full set of matching English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows. H – Anchor – Lion Passant – N. H is the Birmingham silversmith or makers mark of Ernest W Haywood whose mark is recorded as being used from 1931 to 1948, the Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard solid sterling silver and the letter N is the assay date letter for 1937. The condition is used and near Mint for its age. The cruet set has No Dents, No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find, all three pieces stand straight, the definition and decoration is very crisp, the hinge is working perfectly, both the mustard and pepper pot lids open and close as they should with ease, the Bristol blue glass liners are in mint condition that fit tightly, the sterling silver hallmarks are still legible, the box opens and closes with ease although as this boxed Art Deco cruet set is a used antique one of the spoons matches and the other is a later addition and the set does have some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, the set has the patina of age that is to be expected and a good clean would enhance it greatly. Personally I think that this boxed antique Art Deco cruet set can still be used on a dining table today and that it would make a superb addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that it looks fantastic considering that it’s almost 80 years old.
