Japanese silver salt and pepper, ca 1890. Open salt round and bellied with short plain foot. Shaker ginger jar-form with pierced and threaded cover. Both have allover hand hammering with applied floral ornament: salt has tree trunk and blossoming branches. The shaker has iris flowers in eddying water. A charming Meiji-era pair. Marked with Japanese characters. Dimensions: Salt: H 1 3/4 x D 2 1/4 in. Shaker: H 2 1/4 x D 1 3/4 in. Total weight: 3.5 troy ounces.
