SUPERB 6 BOTTLE STERLING SILVER CRUET STAND DESIGNED by Dr. CHRISTOPHER DRESSER
SUPERB SIX BOTTLE STERLING SILVER CRUET STAND DESIGNED. CHRISTOPHER DRESSER – 1898. THIS IS A STUNNING TOP QUALITY 19th. CENTURY STERLING SILVER SIX BOTTLE CRUET STAND WHICH I STRONGLY BELIEVE TO BE A Dr. CHRISTOPHER DRESSER DESIGN (IT WAS CATALOGUED AS SUCH) FOR HEATH AND MIDDLETON (HE DESIGNED FOR THEM AT THIS TIME) AND IS HALLMARKED FOR 1898. IN GOOD GAGE STERLING SILVER BY THE ABOVE MAKER AND HALLMARK DATE (ONE CONDIMENT CONTAINER IS HALLMARKED FOR LONDON BUT IS STILL BY M&H AND THE SAME DATE – SEE PHOTOGRAPHS AND DETAILS) IT IS DEPICTED WITH THREE TEAR DROP STOPPERED GLASS BOTTLES FOR LIQUIDS AND THREE SILVER MOUNTED CONTAINERS FOR DRY CONDIMENTS, ALL WITH FINE HAND GROUND STAR CUTS TO THEIR BASES, WHILE THE BESPOKE SILVER FRAME HAS A HEART SHAPED HANDLE AND A SERPENTINE BASE AND STANDS ON BALL FEET WHICH AGAIN IS MARKED WITH THE ABOVE. I REALISE ATTRIBUTING DRESSER IS PROBLEMATIC AT BEST, WITHOUT HIS NAME ACCUALLY STAMPED ON THE ITEM, BUT THE FACT HE WAS DESIGNING FOR THEM AT THIS DATE, I THINK, GIVES A VERY STRONG CASE FOR IT BEING ONE OF HIS DESIGNS ALSO IT WAS CATALOGUED AS SUCH AND JUST LOOKS LIKE A DRESSER DESIGN – YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF WHO OTHER THAN DRESSER WAS DESIGNING IN THIS FASHION AT THE TIME. IT MEASURES (STAND) 5 1/2″ (14cm) L x 4 1/4″ (11cm) H x 3 1/8 (8cm) D APPROX, AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO DEFECT AT ALL TO THE BOTTLES OR STAND TO REPORT. THIS IS A SUPERB PERIOD STERLING SILVER CRUET STAND MADE TO A CHRISTOPHER DRESSER DESIGN THAT IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND SHOULD HAVE GREAT APPEAL TO ALL COLLECTORS. THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. ALMOST EVERYTHING I SELL IS IN THE CONDITION I HAVE BOUGHT IT, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED, (I HAVE LEARNT TO MY COST IN THE PAST NOT TO TAMPER WITH AN ITEM), AND THEREFORE I HAVE NEITHER HAD ITEMS REPAIRED NOR RESTORED. I WILL ENDEAVOUR TO REPORT ON AN ITEM WHICH HAS HAD EITHER; HOWEVER I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF AN ITEM HAS BEEN TAMPERED WITH AND I CANNOT DETECT IT. PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME ASKING FOR A B. I WILL DISPATCH GOODS ON CLEARANCE OF ANY OF THE ABOVE. I DO NOT ACCEPT – NON U. ALL PARCELS ARE WELL PACKED AND PROTECTED WITH STRONG BOXES, BUBBLE WRAP AND PACKAGING PEANUTS WHERE NECESSARY. SO PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY AS THEY ARE BINDING. DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
