This is a LARGE sterling silver Victorian Lighthouse Style Sugar Dredger / Muffineer with a repoussee work cylindrical body and pierced bayonet fitting top, which is oversized as a status symbol for the banquet tables of the late Victorian period. It may well have been produced to replace an Antique of the time as the lighthouse style was very popular at the turn of the 18. Century when sugar consumption rocketed through the reign of George II. This Dredger / Caster / Muffineer (although the latter was for salt on Muffins) was produced by. Horace Woodward & Co (Edgar Finley & Hugh Taylor) who were established in Great Charles Street, Birmingham but for their higher quality goods used a London hallmark as this was perceived by the Victorians as being of higher quality and status. Height 8 inches 205mm. Base Width 3½ inches 85mm. Weight 317.7 grams. The item “Silver Victorian Lighthouse Sugar Dredger/ Muffineer, London 1893″ is in sale since Wednesday, July 24, 2013.
