BEAUTIFUL MATCHING GEORGIAN SILVER OPEN SALTS LONDON 1798 & 1801 6.74 oz
BEAUTIFUL MATCHING GEORGIAN SILVER OPEN SALTS – LONDON 1798 & 1801 – 6.74 oz. Here we have two great looking, matching, Georgian pierced silver open salts as pictured. Both have a period monogram “JJ” discreetly engraved on one side and both are the same size, shape and design, however they are by different makers and they were made a few years apart. One has been assayed in London during 1798 by Abraham Peterson and the other in London during 1801 by John Emes. The salts measure approximately 5″ long handle to handle by 2″ wide at the widest point of the top rims by 3 high approximately. Their combined silver weight (placed on the scales together with liners removed) is 191.1g, which is 6.74 imperial ounces (6.12 troy ounces). There are no spoons but suitable replacements can be found quite easily in antique shops and markets. Both salts have the usual light / faint scratches around the bodywork that all silver objects tend to attract. There are no deep, nasty or serious dents anywhere as far as I can tell. As might be expected, the decoration around the bodywork is a little bit rubbed through age and use over many years. The original glass liners are assumed to have been broken or lost at some time in the past because the current liners are later replacements, made from coloured Perspex or similar. To note is that the liners are very slightly different colours, one is very blue, the other is similar but has more of a mauve tinge. Great looking period open salts, o ffered for sale here together in a used antique condition, exactly as pictured and with. THERE ARE NO COMPLICATED “TERMS & CONDITIONS”… I always leave feedback after it has been left for me. Sellers: Get your own map today.
